How can SSRI’s cause dry mouth when they don’t affect the acetylcholine receptor?

January 22, 2012 - 9:02 pm 1 Comment

Some have a mild affinity. Citalopram has no effect on the receptor, yet like all ssri’s it lists dry mouth as a side effect, claiming 20% of users report it.

Seriously asking a psychopharmacology question on YA! is not going to elicit many answers, that said, I’d recommend reading the PI sheet that comes with the medication.

There are several types of 5-HT receptors, the potential for cholinergic over lay exists, and the mechanism of "dry mouth" isn’t necessarily solely the responsibility of ACH.

How does the public health system in panama work for people not covered by social security?

January 12, 2012 - 2:58 am 2 Comments

Hello everybody!
I’m working on a presentation about the health system in Panama and there are a few things I still don’t quite understand about the public health system.

There are hospitals from Social Security and the Ministry of Health. Can you just go to each of these hospitals? And what happens when you are unemployed and not paying for the social security system? Can you still go to the social security hospitals then?

To make it short: Where is the difference in the services available if you seek medical care when you are paying for social security or when you are unemployed?

Thank you very much!

How the health system in panama does not work? As the average Panamanian would say, public health care is very poor, worse yet if you are not employed, less health care coverage than those with social security coverage.

What health care plan can two of us purchase which will cover our medical needs and not have outrageous?

January 4, 2012 - 9:45 pm 1 Comment

premiums? I believe we may be eligible to continue our current coverages with Kaiser when my spouse retires, but the premium will be $1200 monthly. What can we do to get affordable health care? We both have preexisting conditions, and although we are healthy, it makes health care almost out of our reach, when we both have conditions which require several visits to health care providers annually.

Kaiser Senior Advantage begins at age 65. It around $100 a month plus your Part B Medicare monthly premiums. If you retire before age 65 you would have an individual plan. I suggest contacting an insurance agent and finding out what insurance and what plans are available in your state.

Eye drops for dry eyes?

December 21, 2011 - 9:50 pm 2 Comments

I’m in the process of being diagnosed with Sjogren’s Syndrome. I have dry eyes, dry mouth, arthritis and fatigue.

My eyes are very painful, dry, sting, burn, feel like there’s sand in them.

I saw an ophthalmologist and he said they’re extremely dry and told me I should be putting in eye drops even when I don’t need them. He also mentioned plugs for my tear ducts, but I said I wanted to try the drops first.

I’ve tried Polytears, Refresh and Systane. So far, Systane has been the only one that’s helped.

Any recommendations for the best eye drops for dry eyes? Where I live Restasis isn’t available.

Thanks.
Thanks John. I did try two different gel/ointmens for dry eyes, I’m not quite sure of the names. I think one was viscotears. I found them really uncomfortable. When they touched my eyelashes my eyes would itch like crazy and after putting them in I couldn’t see for about an hour after. I thought it was good that the eye drops don’t last that long, less likely to become contaminated etc.

Thanks

Hi there- I would continue with the systane AND add a carbomer gel in 4x daily( including a spot before bed and a spot in the morning upon waking- Such carbomer gels are Viscotears or GelTears. If these do nt work for you then perhaps an OINTMENT prep is necessary before bed- Such as Lacrilube- Downside about any of the drops(bottles) of artificail tears is that they only last a very short while whereas Gels and ointments lubricate for much longer- The downside about taking gels and ointments(especially the ointments) is that they are a little more difficult to put in the eyes and therefore a little messy- You CAN use more than one product /type of product in conjunction with one another- I would keep with the systane and incorporate either a carbomer gel but if this doesnt work substitute the carbomer gel with Lacrilube ointment- The punctal plugs may beworthwhile trying as most eyes seem to respond well to them i find..I hope this helps-

Alpha Lipoic Acid an Important Ingredient to Know

December 5, 2011 - 10:01 pm Comments Off

I thought a little research into one of the ingredients in MAX GXL would be a useful idea. Present in every cell of the body – much like glutathione – alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is an antioxidant that helps your cells convert glucose into energy. Unlike antioxidants like Vitamin C which can only work in water or vitamin E which only works in fat , ALA works – is soluble in both water and fact so it can work anywhere in your body. Like other antioxidants, ALA helps clear free radicals -metabolic trash – from your cells before they become cluttered and toxic from a build up of waste. Unlike many other antioxidants though, Alpha lipoic Acid has the ability to help to regenerate other antioxidants once they have collected the stray electrons and through the regeneration process renders them able to continue to neutralize more free radicals.

ALA is also used as an abbreviation for Alpha Linolenic Acid which is an omega-3 fatty acid, connected with heart health, but this is a different substance from Alpha lipoic acid – also referred to as Lipoic Acid.

Several studies have indicated that ALA may be able to help reduce levels of blood sugar and combined with it’s antioxidant properties, ALA might be helpful to people suffering from diabetic peripheral neuropathy, relieving some of the discomfort caused by nerve damage.

Researchers are studying alpha lipoic acid to determine its effectiveness against glaucoma although the are yet to collect sufficient data, but because it can pass easilt to the brain, it is possible that ALA might be useful as a protector against brain and nerve tissue damage. it is currently being studied as a possible treatment for stroke and other brain problems with root causes based on free radical damage. Dementia is one such condition.

In addition to its presence in MAXGXL, ALA is also included in the newest product from MAX International called Cellgevity, where it contributes to the regeneration of the network antioxidants and supports the glutathione network.

The Antioxidant Network

Antioxidants are our body’s most important protection against the harm caused by free radicals which contribute to many chronic inflammatory and degenerative ailments. Oxy radicals are the root cause of premature aging. Of all the antioxidants, a team of five are regarded as Network Antioxidants. This team of both fat and water soluble antioxidants work together to support your cells and operate together to assist each other.

When an antioxidant donates an electron to fix a free radical, it actually becomes one, but a benign one without the potential to continue the chain reaction. Unfortunately, when they become oxidized, they’re also no longer able to operate effectively. But, what is special about the network antioxidants is that they have the ability to help to regenerate each other and continue the routine of searching out and correcting free radicals.

Even though they operate together, the network antioxidants fulfill diverse roles. The fat soluble ones, specifically CoQ-10 and Vitamin E protect the fatty cell membrane and the cell mitochondria, while the water soluble antioxidants, Glutathione and Vitamin C protect the center of the cell. ALA – Alpha Lipoic Acid is unique in that it is both fat and water soluble.

Vitamin C is the link which connects the fat soluble and water soluble antioxidants in the network and is mainly responsible for recharging Vitamin E and glutathione when it becomes oxidized.

Vitamin E is closely connected with heart disease prevention, because it’s the only antioxidant that can reach fatty portions of the cell that are not accessible to the rest of the network. It’s actually not a single compound but is instead a group of fat soluble alcohols.

CoEnzymeQ-10 or CoQ-10 is present in each your cells, where it is concentrated in the mitochondria, the component of your cell that produces energy. Mitochondria are vulnerable to free radical injury which has been evidenced as a decline of energy as we age. Additionally, CoQ-10 works in the regeneration of Vitamins E, C and Glutathione

Glutathione, very well identified as the Body’s Master antioxidant is continuously circulating through your cells, rejuvenating your immune cells and cleansing cellular waste from your body. It supports the rejuvenation of all of the remaining network antioxidants. Increasing your glutathione levels helps protect you from different inflammatory conditions, autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue syndrome, asthma and others.

Alpha Lipoic Acid is unique among the Network Antioxidants in that it is both fat and water soluble and can help both the fatty membrane and water based interior of the cells. It is also uniquely capable of repairing itself and also can regenerate the other network antioxidants including glutathione. It helps to stop muscle damage during vigorous workouts and is one of the ingredients in Cellgevity.

Like glutathione and CoEnzyme Q-10, ALA is created by your body, but the production capacity declines significantly as we age.

Vitamin C – A Network Antioxidant

Everybody is familiar with vitamin C which you might know asascorbic acid (AA) or dehydroascorbic DHAA in its oxidized form. Basically, vitamin C is virtually a catch all name for different compounds that exhibit the same biologic activity as Ascorbic acid . It’s importance was initially recognized in 1747 when James Lind identified that men could be cured of scurvy if provided oranges and lemons. It was a lifesaving breakthrough for sailors and the term Limey’s was quickly adopted referring to the sailors in His Majesty’s Royal Navy.

Vitamin C is the most crucial and readily available water soluable antioxidant within your body . The fact that it is water soluable means that it can neutralize free radicals before they make it to the cellular membrane. The relationship between Ascorbic Acid and glutathione- the body’s master antioxidant and another network antioxidant is unique. Vitamin C returns glutathione back to its active form. Once reduced, glutathione will regenerate vitamin C from its DHAA or oxidized state. This why Vitamin C is an ingredient in Max GXL Vitamin C is vital for the manufacturing of collagen. It is also necessary in the development of norepinephrine and serotonin. Ascorbic Acid could also have some anticlotting and blood flow enhancement properties by stimulating the release within the body of Nitric Oxide, which explains why Vitamin C is also a major ingredient in the supplement ProArgi9-Plus

Vitamin C is held in both the tissues and blood in our bodies. The adrenal and pituitary glands, and lens of the eye comprise the highest concentrations of vitamin C inside the body. It is one of the thirteen essential vitamins. Although the term “Essential” is often misunderstood. What it actually means is that an essential vitamin is one that can only be provided by our diet since we can not produce it within the body.

Halitosis sufferers are there times when you can smell your own breath when singing or talking?

Don’t be discouraged just keep on doing your research and work together for a cure that can be provided for all. And if you find a cure don’t seek to make money from it or try to sell it but out kindness and empathy for chronic-halitosis sufferers provide it for free and instruct others how to make such a remedy,.Have you found any remedies yet ?

You need to clean out your bowels. The bowels are the sewer of your body. If they’re gunked up with rotting food (the average person carries between 9-25 lbs. of fecal matter (poop), your breath will stink.

Food needs to be digested, since it can take up to a week to poop out what you eat today.
