How do I deal with bad breath after I got my wisdom teeth pulled?

July 30, 2009 - 1:25 pm 15 Comments

I got my wisdom teeth removed Thursday. It is now Tuesday, the pain has gone away for the most part but now I am dealing with bad breath. I had all 4 taken out, the top two were out of the gums, so I have holes where I get food stuck but its a lot easier to clean cause I can reach it with my tongue and a q-tip.

However, my bottom ones had to be cut into, I can barely even see the hole. If I spread my cheeks wide enough, I can see some red where I believe the incision was made.

How do I deal with this bad breath? How do I clean my holes? Will I have to worry about this until the holes fill up?

Also, I noticed that all the stitches dissolved Monday night, which is 4 days after the operation. Is this normal?
It is very hard to clean the bottom holes especially since I barely can even see the holes, I can’t really get my tooth brush back there and I don’t know if food is stuck there.

To deal with your holes, gargle with warm salt water. You want to make sure that your holes are clean until they fill in, if not, it may cause an infection. As for the bad breath, scrub the hell out of your tongue, and just make sure those sockets are clean. Stitches dissolving, is normal. A lot of the times its easier on the patient and the doc if the stitches dissolve. Its normal, there are two kinds of stitches (sutures) that i am aware of, the silk, and the gutta. one dissolves and one has to be cut and removed. You’ll be ok, just keep the sockets clean! Get well!

What are the health benefits and risks of becoming a ballerina?

July 27, 2009 - 7:13 pm 3 Comments

I hear a bunch of rumours like ballerinas stop having a menstruation cycle because they are so skinny. So I was wondering what are some good physical health benefits from being a ballerina and some bad physical health risks from being a ballerina?

Ballerinas face the same health risks as young female athletes when they don’t eat enough to offset the energy they spend, and stop menstruating as a consequence, says a new study.

The study, led by sports medicine researcher Anne Ho ch, D.O., at The Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, has been presented at the American College of Sports Medicine meeting in Seattle.

"These two components of the female athlete tetras put them at higher risk for the other two; the cardiovascular and bone density deficits of much older, postmenopausal women," according to Dr. Ho ch, associate professor of orthopedic surgery and director of the Froedtert and the Medical College Women’s Sports Medicine Center.

The researchers studied 22 professional ballerinas, all members of the Milwaukee Ballet Company, to determine the prevalence of disordered eating, amenorrhea (lack of menstruation), abnormal vascular function and low bone density.

The dancers completed questionnaires on their menstrual patterns and eating habits, and underwent a blood test for hormonal levels. Thirty-six percent of the group had disordered eating habits and 77 percent were in a calorie deficit. Twenty-seven percent were currently amenorrheic, 23 percent had low bone mass density and nine percent were taking birth control.rterial ultrasound measurements revealed that 64 percent had abnormal artery dilation in response to blood flow.

"It was unknown if professional dancers without menstrual periods have evidence of vascular dysfunction, yet some characteristics of the tetrad were common in this group," says Dr. Hoch.

"Eighty-six percent had one or more components, and fourteen percent had all four," the expert added.

Would you fear going to the dentist if you had halitosis and the dentist was of the opposite sex?

As long as the objects they put in it are not sharp then.
Oh no, that sounded pervy..
Sassy Brat: It’s not a personal problem. And you’d be surprised how many dentists still reel at the thought of a terrible mouth, especially recently qualified ones.

lol… no. i feel oddly uncomfortable with anyone getting near my mouth, ‘cept when i invite them ;)

is there possible to have optic neuritis and to be suspected of MS but to have Sjorgren syndrome?

July 27, 2009 - 7:13 pm 1 Comment

I had optic neuritis 10 weeks ago.I had it at my left eye and I started treatment 6 days after it appeared and I recovered 50% until now. I was told I might have MS and announced that I will start the interferon treatment. But yesterday I did a Shirmer test at my eyes ant it was positive, so it showed I might have Sjorgren syndrome. Moreover, I have dry mouth and pain in my joints, witch I know that happen in SS. On the other hand, I am 23 and as far as I knoe, SS occurs more to women between 30 an 40.So, what do you think is my case.I must say that I am going to the doctor, but they don’t want to say anything until I have all my tests done, which is normal. I only want to know is their is anybody who was in my situation or knows more about this kind of cases. Thanks!

well multiple sclerosis is seperate from sjogren which can be caused by connective tissue diseases ,u might have the both and its coincidental not related to each other …

How to get rid of bad breath in the morning?

July 27, 2009 - 7:13 pm 10 Comments

I brush my teeth once at night with a mouth wash and once in the morning after I get out of bed. Every other nights, I use water pik substituting for floss, but I use mouth wash every night and use the tongue cleaner every night as well. How can I get rid of bad breath? Any tips? Please explain.

You will never totally eliminate bad breath, especially in the morning. Your mouth is not eating or talking…therefore, bacteria lies dormant inside during the night. This is what causes bad breath. It doesn’t matter that you brush, floss, mouth wash prior to bed. Bacteria will still lie dormant in an unused salivated cave. Time to accept it and deal with it.

Digestive Enzymes, Nutrition and Your Health

Information about Digestive Enzymes

Digestive Enzymes are enzymes that specifically work in the digestive system to facilitate the digestion, absorption, and transportation of nutrients. They also work to promote timely elimination of digestive waste products that are not of use to the body. Without enzymes, our cells would not get adequate nutrition and we would not survive.

Enzymes function as catalysts to enhance and dramatically speed up biochemical reactions that occur in every one of our cells. They are only activated in water, so staying hydrated is very important for enzymes to work effectively. Enzymes must be present to ensure proper digestion of nutrients, energy production, metabolism, transportation of fluid to cells, and elimination of toxins among many other functions.

Enzymes exist in foods to help our body’s breakdown what we eat. Raw, uncooked foods are the only foods that contain enzymes. Since the majority of our diets are cooked foods, we significantly limit the enzymes available in our food for digestion, thus putting more stress on our digestive systems. Some supplemental enzymes should be taken with food to enhance digestion and absorption of nutrients, whereas other supplemental enzymes should be taken on an empty stomach to support circulation, decrease inflammation, support our immune systems and combat stress. Imbalances in these factors have been scientifically proven to be ociated with or the cause of numerous diseases.
