Help with Overcoming Panic Disorder

April 8, 2010 - 9:10 am Comments Off

When you have been plagued by anxiety with panic attacks for a duration of time you are likely to be clinically determined as suffering from panic disorder. Being able to label your affliction with a name tends to make it less complicated to look for assistance as you’ve got a better idea exactly what help you are in need of. Overcoming panic attacks isn’t something that is going to materialize by swallowing a magic medicine your medical doctor provides you with. Prescription drugs just work to control the symptoms and do not operate at the level that actually created your panic and anxiety to start with.

Eliminating panic disorder necessitates that the fundamental source of the affliction is resolved. It’s a behavioral issue that’s been learned probably over time or in reaction to a distressing experience. Your mind and body have just come to be conditioned to enter a flight or fight reaction in inappropriate circumstances. Basically you experience anxiety or panic attacks in reaction to events that aren’t life threatening. Thus overcoming panic disorder is usually possible by reversing the process that led to your problems to begin with. Therefore you learned how to experience anxiety and panic attacks and therefore you can unlearn the process as well.

Modifying your chosen lifestyle to accommodate more relaxing and comforting pastimes will help you to lessen your stress levels and make you less susceptible to experience panic and anxiety. You may choose to try learning to meditate or going to a regular yoga class. Meditation for instance can guide you to an inner place of stillness and serenity in which you may get away from your anxiety. Yoga teaches breathing techniques that can also help you really feel relaxed and help to ease your worries. It could help to provide you with something to focus on as opposed to all the things in your everyday living which might be causing your stress and anxiety. Have you thought to treat yourself with a relaxing massage therapy or a reflexology treatment. There are many various natural remedies. Give a variety of them a try and you may discover one that definitely helps you.

We Baby Boomers Need to Look After Our Health

April 8, 2010 - 9:10 am Comments Off

We should all care about health, but as baby boomers we are especially concerned.Right now, it’s the boomers who are in the middle, caring for both children and elderly parents, and this can create an abundance of stress. Here are a few helpful ideas for baby boomers who would like to preserve their health, as well as some sources that will help you to find more helpful information.

Well, good health starts with a good diet and exercise. Adding those two things alone would help a lot of people I know. Even for younger children, these two factors are important- activity in early childhood will help control obesity all life long and eating the right foods from the start can reduce the risk of conditions like diabetes. So, as baby boomers are watching over the health of their family, weshould not forget ourselves.

Start with a diet that is high in fiber. It’s perfect for the average baby boomer. When you also include lean meats (emphasis on lean) the diet will provide the protein that is needed for energy and muscle toning. We should also consideredtaking a supplement that includes omega-3 fatty acids; this will improve memory and brain function, and make it easier for the body to fight off free radicals. Men of this generation should be sure to eat foods that are rich in lycopene, a substance that can reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Lycopene can be found in foods like tomatoes and watermelon, so eating these fruits fresh a few times a week can make a big difference when it comes to preventative health.

Supporting our bodies efforts to fight the damage caused by free radicals is vital as we age. Since our bodies are simply producing anti-oxidants like CoEnzymeQ10 (which is important for a lot more critical health issues than wrinkles) and glutathione- the bodies master antioxidant, its important to watch our diets for foods that are rich in anti-oxidants and also take some qualily supplements like MAX GXL a glutathione precursor, or products like Resveratrol and CoEnzyme Q10 from RGarden. and stop skipping breakfast! This the meal that will get the metabolism going for the day, so eating things like whole grains, eggs (for protein) and fresh fruit are ideal.

An exercise plan that includes some type of cardiovascular activity three times a week is also an essential part of baby boomers health as is some form of strength training which has been proven to boost the metabolism and -especially important for women- help maintain the density of our bones to stave of osteoporosis. Even if joining a local gym is not a feasible option, walking in the neighborhood in the morning or evenings is a great way to manage weight and to prevent certain conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure.

Finally, don’t ignore your check ups. Visit your healthcare professional on a regular basis just to be sure that nothing is going off the rails and do not ignore the sudden onset of a change in your health. If you find that you’ve suddenly dropped twenty pounds for no apparent reason, its a sign that you need to be checked out. Get your eyes checked regularly and use good common sense in deciding what conditions to ignore and what to take action on.

Do I have Sjogren’s Syndrome?

April 7, 2010 - 1:32 am Comments Off

Hi- I am 20 years old and concerned with my health. Before I consult a doctor, I want to go in having an idea what my problem could be. About 4 years ago, I got a sore on the side of my tongue. It didn’t bother me too bad, and it wasn’t very visible. For the past 4 years this sore comes and goes, (it can be on both sides of my tongue) it really is not too disturbing though. It does not even look like a sore, but I can usually feel it when it comes. I feel it probably about once a month for a couple days. I looked this up and discovered this could be from an auto-immune disorder. At about that time, I started suffering severe headaches. The pain has pretty much gone away. Two years ago, I started experiencing a dry throat- didn’t think it was too much of a problem. However recently, I have very swollen lymph nodes in my armpits. I have very dry mouth- (i actually have burning tongue syndrome). My throat is very dry. My eyes are extremely dry and feel like sand paper! i have been experiencing some blurred vision. My dry eyes actually began about 1 1/2 years ago. I figured this was just from my contacts, but it has been getting progressivley worse and now my dry eyes bothers me every single day. I have had dry hair my entire life. I have some sore throats and heart pains. For the past month, I have felt extremely tired and fatigued. I feel like I can’t get up in the morning and it is very difficult to function throughout the day. The exhaustion I have been experiecing is depressing. I have gone a complete month with no relief of this fatigue. Even if I get 10 hours of sleep in a night, I still wake up tired and fatigued. My joints are starting to get pretty sore- i notice this most at night before bed. I’ve been really worried about all this, I know I need to go to a doctor and I will- but I would like some opinions please!! Also….when I was young I had LOTS of cavities. I had about 8 cavities on my baby teeth. And now I have about 4 cavities. I haven’t had a cavity in about 5 years or so though. I know this could also be a sign on Sjogren’s Syndrome. I have no family memebers who have had Sjogren’s Syndrome that I know of.

Sjogren’s Syndrome is rare, especially at age 20 (but certainly not impossible). Sjogren’s often does overlap with other autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus so it’s important to get a full autoimmune blood test work-up if you suspect any autoimmune disease.

Although you may think that your symptoms all line up with Sjogren’s, keep in mind that your symptoms could simply be a combination of one or more of the following: (1) normal human stuff, (2) allergies, (3) residual growing pains/overexertion, (4) a virus, (5) poor dental health, (6) needing a new contacts prescription…and most of all (7) stress. Or it could be something else entirely.

Only a qualified medical doctor can tell you if you have Sjogren’s or not. ****No one here on Yahoo Answers is qualified to diagnose you.****

Go ahead & make an appointment for a doc right now. By delaying making an appointment, you’re causing yourself unnecessary grief. You should go to see your primary care doctor in the next few days so you can get some peace about this.

To prepare for your appointment, on a piece of paper, make a nice list of all your symptoms and any questions or concerns you may have. Make two copies: keep one for yourself and give one to your doc.

Here are some blood tests you might want to ask about:
- ANA (anti-nuclear antibody test)
- rheumatoid factor
- anti-SM
- anti-centromere
- anti-dsDNA (double-stranded DNA)
- SS-A
- SS-B
- ESR

These are basic autoimmune/inflammation blood tests that will help clarify RA vs. Sjogren’s vs. Lupus/SLE (not that any of them are possible to diagnose just from a blood test). Your doctor may want to run ANA first, see how that turns out and then use that to decide if he/she runs anything else. If your primary care doc seems oblivious about autoimmune disease and/or these tests, ask for a referral to a rheumatologist.

You should also see your ophthalmologist about your blurred vision, dry eyes and headaches. If you’re concerned about Sjogren’s, ask for a Schirmer’s test. In this test, they put little pieces of paper in your eye and see how wet it gets. Based on how many millimeters of wetness you have, that lets them know if you have Sjogren’s level of dryness or not.

Obviously, you need to see a dentist and get those cavities filled. A qualified dentist can check your saliva output. There are specific Sjogren’s levels of mouth dryness. Sometimes it might feel like you have a dry throat when it’s just irritated from drainage or allergies. Mention your mouth ulcers as well (which can have many causes). Meanwhile, are you brushing regularly and flossing daily? Using cavity-fighting mouthwash? Avoiding sugary foods? Avoiding spicy foods that cause mouth ulcers?

I can tell you one thing for sure: you are stressing yourself out too much (I can tell because I’ve done the same thing!!). Reading about autoimmune diseases will make you far more anxious, nauseated, tired, depressed and focusing on every little symptom. Most autoimmune articles focus on worst-case-scenarios and don’t talk about the fact that many people with autoimmune disorders live happy, reasonably healthy lives. I have a friend who’s 50 who has lupus, fibromyalgia, GERD, bipolar disorder, lactose intolerance, migraines, IBS, TMJ, celiac disease and a bunch of other stuff. She’s living an active life and is doing just fine. I have another friend with MS who’s doing great. And, her mom has had MS since she was in her 20′s and is now in her 60′s and is doing fine. Don’t let the yucky stuff on the web scare you.

Seriously, you’ve got to stop reading stuff on the web about it for now. *If* something comes back positive, then spend time researching.

Any rheumatologist will tell you that stress only makes autoimmune diseases worse. So, if you do have something, you’re making yourself worse by worrying about it. If you don’t have anything, then you’ve caused yourself a lot of grief for nothing and you’ve wasted your time. Take a break from researching. Do something fun. Get your mind off it. Pray & trust God that everything will work out for the best. :-)

Watch Television On Your Computer For Free

April 4, 2010 - 9:07 am Comments Off

With the condition of the world-wide economic climate having an impact on many people’s spending habits one of the first items they’ll often scale back on will be their satellite TV and cable TV monthly subscriptions. Monthly subscriptions to these services generally are priced somewhere between $65-$150 per month depending on the package. Often the monthly fee may cost even more if lots of premium channels are contained in the bundle like film and sports channels. If you watch sports on computer then you may also be subject to expensive pay-per-view subscriptions in addition.

The benefit of having satellite or cable TV available is not something your family has to lose out on. It is possible to watch television on your computer for free. So long as you have access to high speed Internet you can find software that you can download to your computer system that will get over 3,500 TV channels from all over the world over the Internet. Don’t let the smaller monitor on your personal computer put you off as almost all PCs have a TV output that will allow you to link your Personal computer to any large wide-screen television set.

You can have access to thousands of channels from all over the entire world via the world wide web using the Satellite Direct software program. You’ll have usage of this for merely a small onetime fee for the software package that’s probably not as much as you pay for just one month’s cable subscription. The software package requires a minute approximately to install and requires no special computer hardware and gives you unrestricted access to all the channels that you intend to watch. Internet Media Magazine reported the Satellite Direct software as “unequivocally the best TV to PC software on the net”. Though not the only satellite television package available on Personal computer none of the the rest have as many stations or they have concealed costs which they don’t let you know about.

Health reform is becoming law.How it’s possible for those states to file law suits on Government?

Health reform is becoming law.How it’s possible for those states to file law suits on Government?Shouldn’t they obey the law now or face the jail or something?

They feel that they are being forced to do something that is unconstitutional and they are suing to
stop what they feel is an unfair burden that is being forced upon them. They are being told thaat they have to cover all these people and they are given no money to cover them with. This will surely
bankrupt the state. That is why they are suing. If you feel you’ve been wronged by the government,
you do have the right to sue. Everybody has that right.

How do you prevent waking up with a dry mouth?

April 1, 2010 - 1:33 am 4 Comments

I wake up every morning and my mouth is so dry! Sometimes it even bleeds because its so dry.

You can try drinking water before you go to bed, and every time you get up to go to the bathroom. Keeping water by the bedside is a good idea too, and what is probably happening is you are a mouth sleeper, meaning you sleep with your mouth open and you most likely snore. You may want to get checked for sleep apnea, or try sleeping on your side or stomach with a pillow designed for that kind of sleep to support your head.
